DADSWORK COMMUNITY GARDEN 2008
Dadswork has been recently securing a piece of land at Edenhall hospital to develop a community garden for the dads and their families to cultivate , maintain and grow vegtables , where they will be able to meet others dads doing their gardens. We are having 10 plots of garden for 10 families measuring 25ft x 10ft. Dadswork has secured £1000 an O2 Its your Community Award to develop the community garden. Good news again Dadswork has secured a further £690 from the Redhouse Home Trust. We also received £2000 from East Lothain Community Health Development Group to further assist in the development of this exciting project. We have the been in receipt of kindness from Dobbies Garden Centre who have donated seeds and seed potaoes for us to plant and are continuing to support our community garden. We would like to thank Rayprographics who have kindly donated our conditions of lease to plot holders printed on a large poly carbon weathered sheet which we will attach to the wall of our garden. Come back and see how the community garden develops. Below are some starter photos of the land as it currently looks upon Dadswork taking it over to develop the community garden. .jpg)

Family breakdown can have terrible effects and one of the biggest issues faced by estranged Dads is isolation. Understandably, most available support groups focus on the needs of Mothers, and Fathers are sometimes left feeling out of the loop. Dadswork is an imaginative project which seeks to address this problem by recognising the importance of fathers. Funded by BBC’s Children in Need Dads and kids work together developing, maintaining, and growing produce in a community garden. The aim is to bring families together as well as to promote social interaction and environmental awareness. Since most of the families involved do not have access to their own green spaces this is a great opportunity for Dads and kids to learn about the joys of gardening as well as offering a space to build for the future.
