- DadsWork has been in existence since April 2003 and was born out of a need identified through research carried out by local agencies ‘Dads make a difference’ by Positive Parenting Forum East Lothian and ‘Lads becoming Dads’ by First Step Community Project and by direct contact from fathers and also from other statutory and non statutory agencies.
- DadsWork formed a steering group of local dads and interested professionals which resulted in raising small grants to enable ground work to be carried out and resulting in DadsWork becoming an independent , constituted project with charitable status.
- DadsWork received Scotland’s largest award from BBC Children in Need grant of £70,767 in November 2004 to fund project running costs and staff salaries for 3 years.
- We continue to support dads and develop DadsWork in Musselburgh, Wallyford, Prestonpans and Tranent.
- DadsWork provides an outreach service providing support to isolated dads in their own home on a 1-1 basis with also the option of a weekly group support meeting. At this group we have covered issues such as Positive Parenting , Anger Management, Finances and benefits and Self Esteem and have provided a more light hearted side in offering baking and social outings such as Quad Biking and out for lunches as alternative ways of relaxing. We also provide family outings and have been to Amazonia, Museum, Edinburgh Zoo, East Links Family Park and Blair Drummond Safari Park. DadsWork raised enough funds through grants and a sponsored cycle to enable us to take 5 families on holiday with their children for a week caravanning in Port Ban, Argyllshire.This allowed the fathers to spend un interrupted time with their children having the opportunity to experience and try new activities(photographs can be seen in the gallery section).
